To celebrate International Womens Day, Finsbury have been celebrating women from across the group both internally and externally. Learning about their career journeys, aspirations and what drives them forward into the future.

How long have you worked at Finsbury?

Since February 2017

A key moment or decision that helped you progress in your career?

Looking back, the turning point was when we decided to bring accounting and payroll in-house and take full responsibility for it.

At that time, the finance function in Poland was still developing and we didn’t have a full team in place. Building processes from scratch and preparing for my first financial audit was challenging and honestly, stressful. But when we passed the audit successfully, it gave me real confidence and proved that the systems we had built were solid.

From there, my role naturally evolved – from assistant to Finance Manager and Head Accountant for Poland, taking ownership of other areas within finance function including operations finance, commercial finance, taxes.

At the same time, this journey would not have been possible without strong support of my direct managers. Their trust, guidance and belief in my potential gave me the confidence to take on more responsibilities and continue developing.

For me, growth started when I stopped waiting to feel ready and chose to take responsibility instead.

What support or opportunity has FFG gave you which made the biggest difference to your career?

The opportunity given by Finsbury Food Group to utilise my potential has made the biggest difference.

From the beginning, I was given the chance to grow beyond my initial role and gradually expand my scope of responsibility. What truly mattered was that the company believed in me – even at moments when I was still building my confidence. It gave me the courage to step outside of my comfort zone and take ownership of wider areas within finance. Over time, I have developed not only technical expertise, but also leadership skills and more strategic mindset.

Knowing that someone sees your potential and gives you space to prove it, can change the entire direction of your career. For me the key was not a single programme or training – it was space to learn by doing, sometimes making mistakes and still feeling supported – and it made all the difference.

One piece of advice you’d give to someone building their career in your profession at FFG?

Be curious and don’t limit yourself to your job description.

Finance is not only about numbers – it’s about understanding how the business works. The more you understand operations, sales, strategy the more value you can bring to the table. Ask questions and volunteer for projects that feel slightly uncomfortable.

Don’t wait until you feel 100% ready. Growth often begins when you accept a challenge that feels slightly bigger than you.
